3-time Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit passes away at 81
Sheila Dikshit, Delhi’s longest serving chief minister and a senior Congress leader, died on Saturday at the age of 81. Dikshit was admitted to the Escorts Hospital in the national capital a few days ago, her family and the party said. She suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed her last around 3.55 pm. "Mrs Sheila Dixit was brought in the morning of July 20 to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Okhla, in a critical condition with a cardiac arrest," the hospital said in a statement.
"A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr Ashok Seth, chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilised temporarily. However, she had another cardiac arrest and despite all the resuscitative efforts, passed away at 3:55pm on July 20," it added.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also expressed his shock at the demise of Sheila Dikshit. "In her death, the country has lost a dedicated Congress Leader of the masses. People of Delhi will always remember her contribution to the development Delhi during her tenure as Chief Minister for three years," he said in a statement. Sheila Dikshit died at the age of 81.

Tall Leader of Congress: Rajnath Expresses Grief Over Demise of Sheila Dikshit | Calling Sheila Dikshit a tall leader of Congress, Rajnath Singh expressed his grief over the demise of the former chief minister. He said, “Sheilaji was widley respected cutting across party lines. My thoughts are with her bereaved family and supporters.”
Dikshit, a veteran politician, was the Delhi party chief during the Lok Sabha elections. The three-time former chief minister was appointed the president of the city unit after the incumbent Ajay Maken stepped down citing health issues in January this year. Despite being an octagenarian, Sheila Dikshit led the party in the Lok Sabha polls and herself contested against Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari from the North East Delhi seat. She lost by over 3.66 lakh votes.
Dr Ashok Seth, Director, Escorts Fortis told ANI, “Sheila Dikshit was managed well by a team of doctors. At 3:15 pm she again suffered a cardiac arrest. She was put on a ventilator and at 3:55 pm she passed away peacefully.” She was undergoing treatment at the Escort Fortis Institute for a few years now.
Omar Abdullah Expresses Grief | Expressing grief over the demise of Sheila Dikshit, National Congress leader Omar Abdullah called it as "terrible news”. He said, “I’ve always known her as a very warm and affectionate lady. She did wonders for Delhi as CM & will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”
